Celiac Disease Diet

Following a Celiac Disease Diet need not be as difficult as it seems. Worldwide celiac disease occurs in about one percent of the human population. Celiacs living in India or Mexico might not realize it, nor would they need to compensate for it with a Celiac Disease Diet because their country’s diet consists mainly of rice and corn, and other non-wheat flours like garbanzo bean flour.

To those following a Celiac Disease Diet, wheat might seem unavoidable. Our economy thrives on wheat as an agricultural industry, and our factories spin wheat and its byproducts into all sorts of edibles, derivatives and additives. Wheat gluten is found in most food products made in the United States.

So, taking the hypothetical example of an individual who has gluten intolerance but lives in a rice- or corn- based society, that individual’s reaction to foods with wheat additives would be to avoid them, but their choices do not by any means seem reduced. In the Philippines, for example, they make a sweet bread/muffin that is potato-based. And who doesn’t enjoy corn masa in tamales and tacos?

At Celiac.com and the Gluten-Free Mall, you can find all the support and supplies needed for the Celiac Disease Diet. Take a look at our delicious products and new ideas that come from all over the world. With today’s vast information network and international exchange, adhering to a strict Celiac Disease Diet has never been easier.
